Yiwen Gong
Yiwen Gong is an 18-year-old Dizi performer based in the Bay Area and has been practicing since she was 9 years old. She currently plays for the California Youth Chinese Symphony as an ambassador and Dizi section chair. She has won numerous international music awards and passed the CCOM (Central Conservatory of Music) Performance Level 10 Exam in 2022.
What is the Dizi?
Also known as the Chinese bamboo flute, the Dizi is a traditional instrument made from bamboo with over 2,000 years of history. It is known for its bright, crisp tone that carries a distinctive resonant sound. The dizi is highly versatile as it comes in many different sizes, each representing a different key. This instrument is widely used in both traditional and modern ensembles, folk music, and so much more.
